{"id":77,"date":"2013-11-09T15:49:14","date_gmt":"2013-11-09T20:49:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/engelfitness.com\/blog\/?p=77"},"modified":"2017-02-11T20:16:31","modified_gmt":"2017-02-12T01:16:31","slug":"meet-me-at-the-barre-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/engelfitness.com\/blog\/meet-me-at-the-barre-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Meet Me at the Barre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I woke before the alarm this morning. \u00a0I use the term &#8220;woke&#8221; loosely as in order to wake one must have been asleep and sleep is elusive. \u00a0Why? \u00a0Who knows, it&#8217;s just not part of the plan these days. \u00a0I hurt and I mean everywhere. \u00a0Its not a complaint but rather, a fact. \u00a0I just hurt everywhere and I wonder how I&#8217;ll get out of bed this morning. \u00a0Yesterday was day one in the weight room. \u00a0My daily workouts have consisted of classes&#8211;TRX, Tabata, Muscle Conditioning, Butts and Guts and on the off days cardio&#8211;Intervals, StairMaster, Rowing, Bike. \u00a0I hate cardio. \u00a0The only people who don&#8217;t hate cardio are runners and I&#8217;m NOT a runner. \u00a0I think I&#8217;ve squeezed about as much muscle definition as I can out of the classes so it&#8217;s time to change it up again. \u00a0I discussed this with my trainer, Chris Engel, and, of course, she&#8217;s got a plan for me. Back into the weight room we go.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/engelfitness.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Barre_0023.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-79\" alt=\"Barre_0023\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/engelfitness.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Barre_0023.jpg?resize=300%2C202&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"300\" height=\"202\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/engelfitness.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Barre_0023.jpg?resize=300%2C202&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/engelfitness.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Barre_0023.jpg?w=450&amp;ssl=1 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I worked my back and my abs yesterday&#8211; with a few legs in the mix because the machine was there and I couldn&#8217;t resist&#8211;and I can feel it, really feel it. \u00a0Its pain but honestly it hurts so good. \u00a0If you work out you understand that pain and you like it just as much as I do. \u00a0That pain means you did something and that something gets you one step closer to your goal. \u00a0That pain means accomplishment. \u00a0I want more of that if you please. \u00a0Chris will be designing a variety of weight training workouts for me and then she&#8217;ll set me loose in the gym. \u00a0I&#8217;ll be on my own for a few weeks and then she and I will reconvene, probably take more measurements and then I&#8217;ll get a new set of workouts and the process begins again.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/engelfitness.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Barre_0022.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-78\" alt=\"Barre_0022\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/engelfitness.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Barre_0022.jpg?resize=300%2C198&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"300\" height=\"198\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/engelfitness.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Barre_0022.jpg?resize=300%2C198&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/engelfitness.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Barre_0022.jpg?w=450&amp;ssl=1 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While my workouts will be intensely weight training driven, I won&#8217;t abandon the classes completely, I&#8217;ll weave them in along with the cardio. \u00a0When I train with weights, stretching becomes so much more important so I&#8217;ll need to make use of classes that support lengthening and strengthening. \u00a0Yoga and Pilates are perfect for that. \u00a0Better yet, Chris&#8217;s Barre class is perfect for that. \u00a0It combines dance, Pilates and yoga techniques.
